20th Anniversary of the death of Ayrton Senna

Code: 605

May 1st 1994, 2.17 p.m.. At the San Marino Grand Prix, on the Imola circuit, Ayrton Senna starts the 7th lap, in first position. All of a sudden the steering column of his Williams breaks and the car crashes into the Tamburello turn, at 240km/h. At 6.40 p.m. Ayrton Senna dies at the hospital in Bologna. He was 34 years old (born in 1960). He raced in 161 Grand Prix, 41 victories, 65 pole positions, 19 fastest laps and 610 valid points. He’s been three times world Champion, in 1988, 1990 and 1991. Considered one of the greatest Fomula 1 pilots, after 20 years since his death, people still remember him with enthusiasm and passion. The philately of San Marino wants to remember this “immortal champion” with a stamp of €2.50, on which the designer Marcio Petta, reproduces the Champion, his Williams FW 16 and the Imola circuit of Enzo and Dino Ferrari – San Marino. Twenty years without Ayrton Senna, a long history to tell, a never ending emotion which, with the passing of years, is still alive.
